Ok, here is something I have been thinking about, that would be cool to have in Z. I think we should have a Z scaled Bobber Caboose. The kind for this thread is the two axled Bobber Caboose.

I know Ben has an excellent Transfer Caboose, and Rich has the MOW/Logging Caboose. But a cool addition for Z would be a Bobber Caboose. Here are some drawings I pulled from the web.

A few etched parts that could be used for this caboose and other cabeese would be nice. Steps, smokestacks, brake wheels, laterns, railing. N and HO and S and all the rest have these cool parts and pieces that can be used to modify or even scratchbuild cars.

It would be great to have these. Many years ago, Chicago Railcar offered bobber cabooses for Z scale. They did very well. These are quite collectible today. Here is a photo of it. It was only done in Reading.

B) Cool yes, but only for a limited number of people modeling Z in the 1890s to 1920s (rare for Z I know cause I tried it). Then again that never stopped me or any other Zhead in producing anything. Chicago Railcar made the best Bobber Caboose out there! I guess collectors would like them. I would like to see more scenery detail items produced.

Rob, that is a beautiful cabbie. I think you had one a few months ago for sale.

John, I understand what you are saying about product marketing with the limited size of the Z community, and then the particular modeling tastes. I am sure every manufacturer has a 'product' they would like a Mulligan on. <grin>

I would hope that the "Idea Forum" would help create interest and possibly help develop a product. Thus saving some R&D time/money from the manufacturer.

Oh Loren... The scenery question and idea should be on another thread. <lol>

Now to continue on the Bobber... Depending on the details level, the grab irons could be burned on, and MTL body mount couplers.

OK, good news for this project. Bobber Caboose is drawn, the first test burn might be as soon as tomorrow. Of course it will be awhile for the parts and instructions but John you can soon check this one off your wish list :)

John,
I think interest in turn of the 20th century modeling is changing. Consider MTLs interest in the PFE cars and 33' hoppers. It seems that they are thinking more about this era in railroading. So maybe its time for a bobber, although the only one I'm aware of is the one at the Sierra RR.

Karin, you are the bestest! While you are in the design phase... What if the roof was one piece and the modeler can apply the cupola to any location they wish? Maybe the modeler does not want a bobber with a cupola. This feature alone has just created about four different variations of bobbers.

Well said Mark, but not only the 20th century, I think Z scale modeling is evolving and growing overall. This year alone has been outstanding with new product announcements.

Here is what I am getting at on the cupola, something I whipped up quickly...

John, the caboose in my gallery picture has a roving cupola just as you wished ;)
Just got the brake wheels, need to make the stairs, want to make a resin cast for the chassis, well there are many things to do before its done. If there is enough interest then I will make it a kit. Otherwise, to save doing the instructions, I may have to assemble them and sell them unpainted. I have a shorter version also with only 2 windows.

I think this would also be nice as an HOe caboose. Since you have the plans you might want to branch out a bit.
