Re-wiring multiple units was created by amazonas
Does anyone have any experience re-wiring the power pickup on multiple units?
There is a very useful article at www.zscale.org/ on this.
Essentially it involves bypassing the diodes so that both engines run together.

My question (and I hope I'm not being dense) is what happens when you cross a block?
Will one engine not be on one power supply while the other is on another, but as they are connected will this not cause a short?

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

I am no electric expert, but its not going to short if its the same polarity.

Hello Chris,

the meaning of the diodes in those multiple units isn't to stop one motor from working, but to make sure that just one set of power pick ups is working for both motors. So bypassing the diodes with wire is to get a second power pick up for both motors and such getting a saver power pick up all together.

The downside is that if you have only a short stop section in your track the train won't stop there because the end of the train still is away from that stop section and still getting power. And when this end is finally reaching the stop section the forward end already is away from the stop section and thus getting power again. The train won't stop...

A stop section has to be at least as long as the longest engine or train that will run there.

About getting a short while changing the block, this is only a problem if both blocks are set differently in their polarity. But in this case even a train with just a single power pick up will have a problem. It will stall at the point where both blocks meet, and probably doing some kind of vibrating between both blocks...

Uwe
