4-9 2:28:38 DAZed will speaking of poof-gone....
4-9 2:26:03 rvn2001 I sure hope so.
4-9 2:25:58 DAZed Thom, it is possible. I'm still looking at options
4-9 2:25:38 DAZed very excited to get my hands on the new Dash 9!!! Maybe I'l have it by next Wednesday.
4-9 2:25:22 rvn2001 I don't imagine you can just paint over it?
4-9 2:24:49 DAZed anyway....
4-9 2:23:59 DAZed but it's too much work to get there
4-9 2:23:43 DAZed and I learned that the source car (CSXT) is one that didn't sell well so I was imagining that AZL might work a deal on several sets.
4-9 2:22:56 DAZed I am bummed about the bethgon. Had that been an easy conversion, I would have had one of my unit trains pretty well served on a platter.
4-9 2:21:03 rvn2001 That's a little more drastic..
4-9 2:20:48 GNFan The bethgon was nearly poof-gone.
4-9 2:20:30 DAZed or the "see if the hammer can jar the lettering loose" method
4-9 2:18:44 DAZed :P
4-9 2:18:40 DAZed Thom, that bethgon was seconds away from testing that method...
4-9 2:18:15 rvn2001 You're supposed to light it on fire, Doug.
4-9 2:18:15 DAZed so not only does it take longer, it also requires a lot more applications
4-9 2:17:49 DAZed but it's hard to work with...as you can imagine it evaporates very quickly.
4-9 2:17:02 DAZed for the camp fuel, yes. It actually thankfully does not emit an extremely strong odor
4-9 2:16:25 stonysmith breathing the fumes, Doug?
4-9 2:16:06 DAZed Atlas is pretty much like AZL
4-9 2:15:47 DAZed lettering on the FT cars does not budge. MTL requires camp fuel, not Microsol, and it is challenging as well.
4-9 2:14:29 DAZed (sorry got distracted for a minute)
4-9 2:14:14 DAZed John, yes....and Full Throttle is impossible to do, btw
4-9 2:14:05 rvn2001 Good nite, Ellen.
4-9 2:13:35 ejshelton Time to go....ZU all next time
4-9 2:12:17 ejshelton I agree with John
4-9 2:12:06 ejshelton ZU John
4-9 2:11:59 rvn2001 Good nite, John.
4-9 2:11:38 soccrdad30 well, time for me to go... have agood nite all
4-9 2:07:50 soccrdad30 then, I suppose that Marklin, MTL, Atlas, and other brands may be different in the timing
4-9 2:06:57 DAZed once, I was uber conservative and within 4 minutes the paint was coming off. (AZL 2-bay cement hoppers)
4-9 2:06:03 DAZed it's a game of keeping the paper towel soaked with Microsol, so you usually have to reapply 2-3 times and then take it off at just the right time and hope you only get lettering and not paint. So to start with, you have to be very conservative with timing.
4-9 2:05:37 stonysmith Doug, there is some applicator that has a needle and a glass bottle.. I'd like to find one of those
4-9 2:05:01 soccrdad30 that took time
4-9 2:04:31 DAZed *then place
4-9 2:04:21 DAZed I cut out tiny pieces of paper towel that cover the areas desired to be removed, the place them and then apply Microsol with a qtip. I need to invest in an eye dropper honestly
4-9 2:03:38 soccrdad30 okay, I think you answered my question
4-9 2:03:25 DAZed that gets tricky though....long story
4-9 2:03:18 soccrdad30 do you let the mirco-sol sit or soak?
4-9 2:02:56 DAZed So for example, I could do the reporting marks on one end of the UP car and some random car handling instructions on the other end and then remove them indepenedently but still "soak" them all at once.
4-9 2:01:40 DAZed the "easy" cars it usually takes 15-20 mins per "element". Sometimes I can do multiple at once though. So minimum hour for the four sides of the car if I do the end reporting marks, which admittedly I don't always do.
4-9 2:01:31 GNFan Color choice made for the sole purpose of aggravating Doug. ;-)
4-9 2:00:22 DAZed Note that the original paint scheme on this car is 100% red lettering head to toe
4-9 1:59:57 DAZed here's what the UP car will eventually emulate... «link»
4-9 1:58:48 soccrdad30 how much time has it taken per car to get at that point?
4-9 1:56:52 soccrdad30 I like your projects Doug
4-9 1:56:16 DAZed silver paint does not usually hold up very well.
4-9 1:56:06 DAZed I really thought the UP was gonna be a huge problem with the silver
4-9 1:55:20 DAZed Mike, closer to gone than my fanbase would like. Both of them.
4-9 1:54:54 soccrdad30 cleaned up better than I thought
