| 25-6 2:06:33 | soccrdad30 | it will be our 19th |
| 25-6 2:06:22 | soccrdad30 | happy anniversary to you Doug |
| 25-6 2:04:38 | DAZed | it's our 10th wedding anniversary, too. |
| 25-6 2:04:10 | DAZed | thanks, it's sneaking up too....a little over three weeks away. |
| 25-6 2:03:19 | GNFan | We're jealous, Doug. (I am, at least.) |
| 25-6 2:02:57 | soccrdad30 | I hope you have a great time |
| 25-6 2:01:54 | rvn2001 | It all sounds good, Doug. |
| 25-6 2:01:15 | soccrdad30 | very cool Doug |
| 25-6 2:00:51 | DAZed | I'm also going to have about two full days of railfanning too |
| 25-6 2:00:28 | stonysmith | we didn't have much in the way of a layout... just 4x8 and track laid on it.. no scenery yet... but it had to go also |
| 25-6 2:00:14 | DAZed | plus, I believe that line was former BN, so it fits right in |
| 25-6 1:58:54 | stonysmith | I remember arguing strenously... everything I owned was under water for 2 months or more and had to be tossed out... I kept saying about one of my items... "but it's a SUBMARINE!" "it's supposed to be under water!" |
| 25-6 1:58:39 | DAZed | so one of my vacation activities is riding the Leadville Railroad. My wife found it, I didn't even realize that Leadville had an active rail feature. I had mentioned Georgetown Loop but this is closer to where we are, and looks pretty neat. |
| 25-6 1:57:19 | stonysmith | it was a skylight basement... 3 feet of it stuck up above the ground. we ended up with 6 feet of water.. flooding both basement and top floor |
| 25-6 1:55:46 | stonysmith | Yup |
| 25-6 1:55:25 | soccrdad30 | Stony was this in Alaska? |
| 25-6 1:54:51 | stonysmith | the whole idea was a good one... until the city flooded! |
| 25-6 1:54:50 | GNFan | The highest space in our attic was two suitcases (laid flat) high - no remodeling chance there! |
| 25-6 1:54:30 | rvn2001 | Just loose boards for me.. |
| 25-6 1:54:08 | stonysmith | it was a quite nice arrangement... dad and I setup a 4x8 sheet of plywood for a HO train layout |
| 25-6 1:53:31 | soccrdad30 | no remodeling in our attic, loose floorboards |
| 25-6 1:53:23 | stonysmith | When I was young, my bedroom was in the basement. |
| 25-6 1:52:41 | DAZed | I sort of did, except we remodeled our attic into living space so it was hardly an attic environment by then. |
| 25-6 1:51:42 | rvn2001 | I did the same thing, John....except I had a real bed. |
| 25-6 1:51:14 | soccrdad30 | I believe it Doug |
| 25-6 1:50:54 | DAZed | they are cast metal and they were all pretty well destroyed |
| 25-6 1:50:48 | soccrdad30 | growing up I used our attic as my bedroom and my dad's old army cot as my bed |
| 25-6 1:50:20 | DAZed | it wasn't catastrophic but I did have quite a bit of cars destroyed due to warping. Especially my Walthers doublestack cars (this was pre-Z) |
| 25-6 1:50:06 | soccrdad30 | ouch, even in Michigan, attics get very hot during the summer |
| 25-6 1:49:02 | DAZed |
dang, never though of that either. Worst damage I ever had was when I was staying with a friend right after I got divorced...we were both model railroaders so I had my collection at his house....stored in the attic but it was well ventilated and the temp was pretty stable and safe enough.... Until his roof vent fan went out while I was out of town, and then we didn't realize it for a couple of weeks. |
| 25-6 1:47:14 | soccrdad30 | so now I don't store my paint jobs on my desk that faces the west |
| 25-6 1:47:00 | rvn2001 | The heat/sunlight in my car ruined the Z-Bend Track yard module I had. |
| 25-6 1:46:52 | soccrdad30 | the paint would crackle from the hot sun hitting it |
| 25-6 1:46:16 | soccrdad30 | yep, through the window |
| 25-6 1:46:00 | soccrdad30 | I have seen some youtube garden layout videos in the warmer states |
| 25-6 1:45:56 | DAZed | oh, so like through a window? |
| 25-6 1:45:23 | soccrdad30 | Z |
| 25-6 1:44:32 | DAZed | I honestly never thought about what G would endure outdoors in Texas....I bet it's a challenge |
| 25-6 1:43:50 | DAZed | on G-scale I assume? |
| 25-6 1:43:35 | soccrdad30 | no melted cars, but custom paint jobs ruined |
| 25-6 1:43:10 | soccrdad30 | very true Doug, even in Michigan, I have had painted cars ruined because of the hot sun |
| 25-6 1:42:06 | rvn2001 |
|
| 25-6 1:41:43 | DAZed | in Texas they would melt before they had time to weather |
| 25-6 1:40:41 | soccrdad30 | so that would work for Z scale Thom |
| 25-6 1:40:14 | soccrdad30 | I have read that the G scale trains are UV protected |
| 25-6 1:39:36 | soccrdad30 | Ha! |
| 25-6 1:39:27 | rvn2001 |
I just leave mine outside to weather themselves... |
| 25-6 1:39:23 | soccrdad30 | on the cars, I still plan to use a wash or two on them |
| 25-6 1:38:47 | DAZed | yes, most good weathering techniques are |
| 25-6 1:38:47 | soccrdad30 | and I used brushed acrylic paint and airbrushed acrylic paint. they both work fine |
