Very nice pictures Ellen. Yes, the only way to add another picture is to save your current entry, then go back in to "edit" it. Then you can add another picture to your posting. That is the way to do it for now. John

Category 1, Scratchbuilt (text after photos)

Scratchbuilt Box Cab (powered).

Made just for the challenge. This is the proto to see if I wanted to make a few more of them. Not sure yet if I do.

Used a Marklin 8816 for the power.

Cut down the 8816 chassis to make space for the front and rear walkways.

Front and rear headlights plus interior is lit front and back. Lighted with four Marklin light bulbs (LEDs might have looked too bright for this old looking thing, but maybe on the next one).

Body made from styrene while all items on top are handmade of brass except headlight cases are made from brass and styrene, and bell is made from aluminum (I needed a lighter metal to be able to stretch out the bell shape). The bell actually has a clanker in it (brass) and the bell swings to and fro (can't get it to ring though :) ).

Although it should be black, I painted the smokestack red just to break up the black and white look of the box cab.

Added brass windows, doors, ladders, stirrups and brake wheel from Micron Art. Used a Micron Art ladder sideways to simulate a railing on the front and rear.

Curved roof was made using a bit of heat while bending.

Created decals on an ink jet printer. Smaller decals front and rear read "Watch Your Step" (yesteryear safety concerns and all that).

Not weathered yet (I tend to wait with the weathering until I know what the item is going to be used for).

Note: Since I don't know what I'm going to use it for yet I left the Marklin style couplers in place but they could have been changed out to MTL couplers with a bit of effort.

Questions? Just ask!

The Contest entry thread is now closed. I will post the polls shortly. Good luck contestants. John.

The prior weekend I had my wife perform a random draw of categories to match the prizes. I then sent the results to Stony, Techrep, and Karin Snyder on Sun, January 23, 2011 9:40:15 PM. The email contents are as follows:

Hello Alex, Stony, Karin

Just finished drawing the categories and prizes. I made a slip for every category and a slip for every prize.
Then as you can see, I used my wife's salsa bowl set to draw the slips from. I had my wife Pam draw from the category bowl first, then draw from the prize bowl to match up the set. She then continued the same process to match all of the categories and prizes.

I was thinking of posting this photo after I close the entries. If I post the photo before, that may sway the entries. I wanted to send the three of you a photo of the drawings, just for your verification. I would have sent it out to more, but they are all in the contest with entries.

It's time to cast your vote for ZCS My Z Contest. Follow the "Vote Button down in the left corner" OR go to "Community" Menu option, then to "ZCS Contest 2011 Polls" menu item to cast your vote. Good luck to all entries! John.

You get one vote per category

Note 1. I have pulled my entry from the Kitbash category.

Note 2. No entries in the Weathering Category. So, I will get with Alex to see what he would like to do with the FR BNSF PS-2 Hopper.
