there does appear to be a neat bridge on the other side of I-44 though. Jerome, MO might have to be a stop for sure. |

Yup. The Titanic was described as "practically unsinkable". Yet nature and human nature conspired to find a way. |

Stony, I would offer to try and photograph your bridge the next time I travel through there, but it doesn't look particularly accessible. |

That concept of engineering hubris was well covered at the Titanic exhibit we went to a few months ago |

Mike, bringing it back to trains. Jim would be so proud. |

There's a railroad double mainline that runs along the Tacoma shore (to maintain the illusion of railroads as our subject). |

I certainly don't remember it |
| 11-12 3:28:07 |

but nobody remembers the 1940s, well most people. Historians and model railroaders are all over it |

that is so cliche, so 1990's. |
| 11-12 3:25:54 |

Seeing the film of the rolling bridge deck, it's obvious they thought to close the bridge. But that didn't mean a car or two wasn't left on the bridge at the time. |

yes, losing the dog is very sad. It is interesting the thing I was reading said the bridge was closed to traffic at the time it happened |

The only casualties in 1940 was a car, and a family dog - the owner of both was crushed to lose the dog. |

The 1950 and the 2007 versions are side by side. The 1940 version was one lane each way. My late father drove on it once (must have been barely old enough to do so) - he said it was like driving on a roller coaster. |
